Christmas Home Tour

I love our house year round but when it's decorated for Christmas is my favorite!!  The trees, lights and décor just add so much warmth and happiness.  We try to collect new décor pieces and decorations each year to add to our collection so each year Christmas in our house gets bigger!  I always go out the day after Christmas to snag great deals on things for next year so I can't wait to see what I come home with this year!

Our fireplace.  The advent calendar, joy sign and basket were new additions this year and I love them!! We need to add gas logs back into our fireplace but just haven't gotten it done yet so in the meantime these decorations fill it up nicely!! Once it's empty again, we'll hopefully finally get the logs put in!

Our main tree in the living room.  This year, we just used our ornaments we have purchased since we've been together on this tree.

Nighttime view.

Love sitting on our couch and seeing this view!  Tip: we purchased a photo album and put pictures of each ornament we purchase in it and write beside it where we bought it, what it represents, etc.  You think you'll always remember that stuff but you won't!

I added a few decorations to our shelves this year and hope to find more things to use next year!

I found these snowflake pillows the day after Christmas last year & love them!!  Also, please ignore the crookedness of our gallery wall.  I need to put the sticky things on the back of the frames so they won't move.

Our second tree in our other living room.  We bought this tree after Christmas last year and used it to display all of our childhood ornaments that our families have given us so far.  One day, if we have kids I'll add another tree for all of their ornaments.  Basically my future dream house has like 15 trees in it.  #dontjudgeme

My grandparents gave me their piano a few weeks ago and I love it!  Jared had a great idea to do a mini Christmas village on the top of it and I think it looks great so far!  We're going to try and add a few more pieces for next year but I really like how it adds something to this area of the sitting room.

Dining room table!

Kitchen decorations!

There's even a little touch of Christmas in the bathroom :)

Firefighter tree in our office!

Guest room décor.

Master Bedroom.  I love that light up tree & you can see in the background, we added large plaid pillows to our bed to add more décor to this room.  There are Christmas sheets on the bed in here too.  I LOVE Christmas sheets but we can't handle flannel so I was tickled to find Martha Stewart cotton Christmas sheets last year!

That's our Christmas home tour!! I just love everything and can't wait to see how much better it looks next year too :)  I cannot believe there are 10 days until Christmas!!!!  I'll be soaking up this view for the next 10 days because we're definitely tree comes down right after Christmas people.

Bathroom: Before, Middle & After!

Do you have one room in your house that it just took forever to get right?  If so, you'll totally understand.  This hallway bathroom (we use this as our main one since it's the largest) has been a pain to finish since day 1.

This is what it looked like when we bought our house.  I can't tell you what this brown is but I can tell you it wasn't staying in our house.

I hated how dark the bathroom was and wanted to brighten it up and decided to go with yellow!

This yellow looked so pretty on the paint chip and even the small sample I put on the wall looked okay, but after painting the whole bathroom I swear it looked like a fluorescent Big Bird massacre!!

The tiny, unnecessary double mirrors just made it worse too!

I was afraid to tell our families and Jared that I wanted to repaint it but when we were all there one night I finally fessed up that I hated the yellow (there may have been cheers all around)!  Apparently I'm not the only one who thought Big Bird wasn't a good look.

So...I decided to go with the same green that was in our guest bedroom!

and I thought I liked it...until I realized I didn't!

During this time we also took down the small mirrors, patched the wall and added this one big mirror!  So. Much. Better.

Not bad but I just wasn't feeling it!  I decided that I wanted a more relaxing blue and bought some samples to try!

I originally planned to do the blue on the far right but at the last second decided to go with the one in the middle!

One night a snowstorm was coming and Jared was at work so I went and bought supplies and spent the night completely redoing the bathroom!

Finally painted!  I loved the way the blue looked!  I've also accepted that this bathroom is never going to be my dream bathroom (I would never have picked a crème countertop, toilet & bathtub for starters).  Or a double sink for that matter!  Some people may like them but it's in no way worth the lost countertop space to me!

I knew I wanted to put something on the walls above the toilet and on the left wall, as well as change the rugs (tip: don't buy crème rugs for a bathroom you share with a man or do your makeup in, they do not stay crème!) and the towels on the towel rack!

I decided to add pictures of the girls getting ready on our wedding day to this bathroom and put a groom's portrait and groomsmen picture in the other bathroom!  As soon as that one is done, I'll share pictures of it too!

Other wall!

Finished product!!  (I found these gray Martha Stewart rugs at Macy's!)

I'm super happy with how it turned out and definitely look forward to getting ready in this bathroom more now that it's complete :)

Our Home: Closet Conversion

In our entryway, there was a closet on the side of a closet?  Yeah, if you're confused so was I!!  As you come in from the garage door there is a coat closet and on the end cap of that was another super small closet near the front door.  Anyone else feeling door overload?  While we had our contractor working, I knew we wanted to do something different with this space.

After some brainstorming, we decided to have him do a built in shelving area for us to display pictures, etc. and we love it!  It makes the front entry of our home so much more welcoming and it's fun to display photos there as well!

Right after the conversion

We changed the paint color in this hallway, painted the trim white (I will never understand crème trim!) and painted the shelving unit white as well!

The black picture frames are actually the ones we used at the wedding for the gift table, welcome table, etc.  When we brought them in from the wedding, Jared put them on the shelves & I fell in love with the idea of using them there!

The P was used on our wedding welcome table as well.  I found a silver one I liked at Hobby Lobby & my dad painted it for us for the wedding!  It's so meaningful having these pieces used at our wedding in a place where we see them everyday.

We threw in a few more accents & filled the frames with photos and this project was complete!

Our Home: Living Room Renovation

When we were looking at our house, we knew that the living room probably needed the most work but we also knew that it is where we'd be spending a lot of our time and that the work would be worth it!

Here are some before pictures! Considering we had a modern and tranquil color theme planned for our house, this room had a lot of changes to go through!

First the beams came off the ceiling!

Then we had the wood burning stove pulled out & all the shelving taken out.

I whitewashed the fireplace! One of my favorite DIY projects.

We had cabinets added for storage!

We added some shelving back in!

Painted the room blue & added white crown molding (it was brown before) and added some pretty curtains!

Looking so much better already! We taped the TV off to measure for the mantle.

We had recessed lighting added to the ceiling & it made such a difference!

Furniture was put in and time for the decorating to begin!

I added a couple pieces every few days as we had time to go look.

Finished shelves

We are so proud of this room!  It is definitely where we spend the majority of our time and we love how it turned out.  We will be adding gas logs to the fireplace this fall but other than that this room is complete!
