2016 Texas Trip: San Antonio

After a late night in Houston (see our day 1 recap here), we got an early start to San Antonio!  I have wanted to go there since I was little so I was so excited!

The roads in Texas are very layered and intricate like this which we found really cool!

So excited!

The view from our room at the Hilton Palacio del Rio!  We splurged this night and stayed on the River Walk and it was totally worth it.  We had a great view!

As soon as we checked in we headed out to check out the river walk!

Like a kid in a candy store!!

We decided to start our day with one of the river cruises to see the whole river and learn about the history!

I was impressed by how much we learned on this cruise and we were able to see the whole layout and get an idea of what we wanted to do!

We decided on Rita's on the River for lunch and it was delicious!

So much fun walking the whole thing with this guy!

We decided to head over and check out The Alamo!  We only had one day & night in San Antonio so we didn't take the official tour.  We just wandered the grounds and read some of the information but it was so cool to see a part of history we learned about in school!

I loved these big, beautiful trees on the property!

We spent most of the afternoon walking along the river.  We ended up walking more than 10 miles (I think 13 or 14 to be exact) but we saw the whole thing and really enjoyed our beautiful day!

We ate at Paesanos for dinner & it was amazing!!  It was the perfect romantic dinner on the river that we were looking to have.

Such a pretty night!

The next morning we woke up to a really chilly day!! They had also turned on the Christmas lights over the river for the Christmas season too.  They have an annual Christmas parade of floats the weekend after Thanksgiving which I think would be so cool to see.  We were so glad we had gotten there the day before when it was warm so we could really enjoy being outside.

San Antonio was amazing but it was time to head to Waco & on to Arlington!

Friday Favorites

We had to take a short road trip yesterday for an appointment and I loved this book so much I finished it on the trip!  I will talk more about it in my December book review but if you want an uplifting read on God's faithfulness (exactly what I needed) then this one is for you!

Thanksgiving weekend with these peeps was a definite favorite!!

I recapped day one of our trip to Texas this week!! Reminiscing on our day in Houston was definitely a favorite this week.

Other favorites:

- I'm getting my hair cut today because I.Can't.Take.It.Anymore.  I stuck it in a bun this morning because I just couldn't even handle the thought of dealing with it today.  I've noticed this is now a trend.  I started looking back at pictures to get an idea of the exact length I wanted and realized that I chop my hair off every year in the last week of November or first of December lol.  Maybe this is my personal holiday beauty tradition.

- We are having our families over this weekend for a pre-Christmas celebration and we can't wait!

- We have a double date planned tonight with one of my bridesmaids I haven't seen in way too long and I'm super pumped!

- Cowboys are 11-1. Enough said.

- Answered prayers have happened this week and I'm so thankful.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

2016 Texas Trip: Houston

I'm so excited to finally recap our Texas trip! We had such an amazing time and I love having these posts to look back on!

We flew out of Nashville at 5:30am the day we left (cue all the yawning) so we drove down the night before and stayed at the Best Western Plus Nashville Airport Hotel which was very close to the airport but still required a 3:00am wake up time!

Ready to fly!

We flew into Houston Hobby and this was our view driving into the city to our hotel.  We traveled to Houston to see the UL vs. Houston football game that night and needed to find some fun things to do during the day!  We decided on the Space Center & NASA!

On our ride through NASA!

The old command center.  It was really so interesting to see where a lot of the missions we learned about in school or saw movies about were controlled.  They haven't altered anything so seeing the technology was crazy.  The fact that they could get people to space and the moon using technology that couldn't even power an app on our phones now is just mind blowing.

We were able to go in and see some of the training facilities and they pointed out the buildings were new technology is being worked on for the Mars exploration.  The NASA compound was huge & I am definitely in awe of all that goes on there.

We were able to go in the building and see the Saturn V rocket and cue me feeling the size of an ant!

So much fun adventuring with this guy!

It amazes me how big what we send to space can be.  Mind blown.

We still had some time to kill before the game so we drove back into downtown Houston.

and decided to drive over to see the Water Wall!  I had heard it was impressive but seriously, it was amazing!!

These pictures are the front and back of the wall.  It was relaxing spending time walking around it in the middle of an otherwise busy city.  You could feel the mist coming off of it which felt great too!  If I lived in Houston, I can promise you lots of blog photos and reading time would happen here.

For dinner, we grabbed some traditional Tex Mex which I was loving (Jared not so much lol).   I love Texas food!

Ready for the game!

The game ball and state and American flags were flown in via parachuters who were also spinning around in the sky looking like rockets.  So cool!

We had great seats and sat by some really great people but this game was heartbreaking.  This picture was taken before the game started and that stadium was PACKED when it did.  When we saw the first play, we knew it was going to be a rough game but we still didn't expect it to go as badly as it did.

Even though we lost, it was still so fun to go see another team's stadium, I sat by a couple who worked at NASA and loved talking to them and I was able to finally experience football in Texas and it was everything you think it would be.

We headed to bed after the game to crash because we had to get up early to head to San Antonio!

I'll be back tomorrow with Friday Favorites and then will finish recapping our trip next week :)
