Book Review

Today I wanted to share some of the books I've read lately & my thoughts on them with you!  If you have any good book recommendations, please leave them in the comments!  I'm always looking for a good book to read :)

1. Last One Home - Debbie Macomber

If you're a Debbie Macomber fan or like books about family & the ties that bind us together, you would love this book!  It's not my favorite book I've ever read but it was an enjoyable read.  Definitely something that women of all ages can read and relate to.

2. The Total Money Makeover - Dave Ramsey
I work in the financial industry and get questions about Dave Ramsey a lot!  I had actually never read his book (I knew the basics about him but that's about all) and decided to do a little work research & see if I could find some new financial tips!  I enjoyed this book.  If you need help budgeting then I think this would be a good book for you to read.  I used his budgeting tool to redo ours just to see how it all worked and I honestly loved his 2 page free budget!  Find it here.  I definitely enjoyed learning more so that I can answer more questions and even learned a tip or two that we are already putting to use in our house!

3. The Royal We
LOVE!   Out of all the books in my book review, this is my favorite!  If you are into William & Kate, the royal family, etc then do yourself a favor and read this book!  It was a lot better than I expected and I couldn't put it down.

4. Girls in White Dresses - Jennifer Close
Honestly, I was not a fan of this book.  It jumps around constantly and several of the characters were too whiny for me.  It was definitely a fast read but to be completely honest, I just finished the second half so I would know how it ended and once I read the end I wished that I had stopped reading at the halfway point.  It wasn't a horrible book or anything, others may love it, it just wasn't my kind of book :)

Any books I need to add to my to read list?

8 Years Later

Last night some of my friends from high school got together to catch up & had a blast! We were missing a few of our lovelies and will be doing it again soon!

In the spirit of the fun from last night & the fact that it's been 8 years since we graduated, I thought I'd share 8 things I was reminded of last night.

1. Distance doesn't matter.
One of the girls lives literally on the other side of the world but it's like picking up right where we left off when we all get together.
2. Good food really does make the soul happy.
Taco bar? Tres leches? Yes, please! I don't even care how many points I consumed, the food was delicious!
3. Laughter makes my heart happy.
Lots of laughs were had last night and when I left my heart was so full!
4. Friendship lasts.
We all don't hang out every day but these girls are true friends and for that I'm very thankful.
5. Different roads can still intersect.
Life has taken us all into very different directions & careers but there's still so much common ground between us.
6. Helpful Careers
We are lucky to have a teacher in the group who can translate all the teenage words we don't understand anymore now that we are old ; ).
7. I'm so proud.
All of us are doing great in life and are finding our way.  Looking back on how far we've all come in 8 years makes me so proud of all of us!
8.  Thankful.
I'm so thankful for the friendship of each of these girls.

Can't wait til we all get together again :)

Weekend Recap

Happy Monday!

We had a very busy weekend that we are going to be recovering from for a few days!  Totally worth it though :)  Hope everyone has a great week!
The weekend started off with a yummy dinner from Olive Garden!

How else would I start my Saturday except a 4 mile walk & lots of circuits?

Jared had to mow some on Saturday and while he was mowing in McLean Co I got to hang out with these two crazies & my dad and stepmom!  My dad makes the BEST water slides on his property and I watched the boys for a while and then had to play too :)  SO. MUCH. FUN.

After the water slide, TT(what the boys call my dad) took us for a tractor ride!

Love these sweet boys!

Eating popsicles while watching TT drive the tractor.

There really is just nothing like living in the country!  Jared and I can't wait to move out there :)
Early but yummy Wasabi dinner & then lots of relaxing for us!

All cleaned up for church on Sunday :)  This dress was a little snug when I bought it & now is loose (that's a definite win!).

The cleaned up part didn't last long! We have been working like crazy on our landscaping & it's pretty much finished!  I can't wait to share pictures of how it turned out :)  We're waiting to put any plants in until the Fall but I'm so happy to have all the mulch and rock down.  We have one more area to landscape but there are a few trees there that have to be cut down first!

After landscaping most of the day, we cleaned up for our kickball game & grabbed some yummy Mexican for dinner!  We were both exhausted and are looking forward to a semi-relaxing week!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday!

1. Ballers
We finished up Friday Night Lights this week (amazing series finale with lots of tears for me!) so we needed a new show to binge watch. We decided to save House of Cards for a little bit and watch the new HBO show Ballers. It's so good!!! Highly recommend it. It's definitely a show that keeps guys & girls happy watching it and that's a win/win if you're looking for a show to watch with your spouse!

2. 5 Calorie Lemonade
Love!  These were a perfect WW find!  0 points & taste great!  These are really helping me get away from drinking cokes so that's a win!

3. Early morning walks
When I first started getting up early to walk each morning, it was purely for my weight loss goals and a way to get all my steps in case that was my only chance that day! Now it has become so much more.  Not only are my walks and circuits in the morning helping me to get in shape physically, but it's also helping emotionally & mentally too.  There's something about being out in nature as the world wakes up that just makes you feel closer to God.  This is the time of day when I really work through anything that's bothering me, pray, reflect on life etc.  It's amazing how much I accomplish inside during that hour of walking!  My walks also put me in the best mood for the day too!  I feel mentally refreshed and ready to take on the day after a good morning workout!

4. 1st year in our home!
Wednesday marked 1 year since we closed on our first home!  In the spirit of celebrating that I'm going to be sharing some of our home on the blog in the coming weeks.  We spent two months cleaning and repainting EVERY surface in our home (huge THANK YOU here to our families) before the wedding, moved in right after and have spent the time since decorating and furnishing it!  That part still isn't complete but we've definitely made some progress :)

5. Republican Debate
Did you watch the debate last night?  If so, what did you think?  I think our country is at a major impasse and this election is really going to be a turning point in one direction or another.  I take elections very seriously and plan to tune into the debates so that I can make an educated decision on who I want to see leading our country!  I do not like where our country is currently headed and am hoping our next leader will be one who reignites the American spirit.  Not only do I like learning about the candidates, but hearing them banter back and forth can be pretty entertaining so that makes watching the debate a definite favorite this week!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Total Weight Loss: 10
I'm not sure exactly what happened this week!  I worked out every day but one and had 11 weekly points leftover.  I splurged the night before weigh in (not the best idea) and I feel like I'm retaining a lot of fluid right now.  Anyone know what could cause that or have any tips?   Not letting this slight setback hold me back!  Working hard to get rid of that gain this week!  Drinking tons of water & green tea and I'm going to try to cut back on sodium where I can too!
